Pumpkin Carving

The kids and I carved our pumpkins tonight. Like I mentioned before, this is a tradition that Brian doesn't care much for. Jason says Daddy is scared of the pumpkin guts. Whatever the reason is, every year carving pumpkins is an activity the kids and I enjoy together. This year seemed especially fun.

This was the first time Jason was really able to carve on his own. His pumpkin is the one on the right (above) and mine is on the left. We left Caitlin to coloring hers again this year, maybe next year she can have one to help carve. Jason did about 2/3 of the carving himself (and all the design) and only stopped when his arms were really hurting.

After Jason and I cleaned out all the pumpkin guts, Caitlin's job was to help separate the seeds into a bowl of water to soak them before roasting. When Jason was three, he couldn't stand having anything gooey, sticky or slimy on his hands so I wasn't sure how Cait would handle it. She apparently doesn't have the same fear because she dug right in to the bowl of pumpkin goo and spend over 1/2 and hour sorting the guts from the seeds. I was very impressed with both of them and loved watching them have fun and be proud of themselves.

Bonus: While we were carving away, Brian was upstairs doing laundry, changing sheets and vacuuming :)
